Members of the Delmar Volunteer Fire Department and other agencies responded to a two-alarm fire at Wells Home Furnishings on Stage Road at approximately 11 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1 when a passerby reported the incident.

In total, it took a team of 35 firefighters approximately an hour to get the fire under control, though not before the flames caused extensive damage.

The business was vacant at the time, officials noted, though it caused an estimated $30,000 ($25,000 to the structure, $5,000 to its contents) worth of damage.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Anyone with information regarding the fire has been asked to contact the Lower Eastern Regional Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal at (410) 713-3780.
